Upper end Knock?

Upper end Knock?
My 78 has an upper end knock/tick Sounds like it's in the valve cover?? Me and dad tore it down because of less than 3lbs idel hot oil pressure. But it always started and ran great
We honed it new rings, seals, bearings, oil pump.gaskets ground valves,/cleaned everthing and painted it put it back together.and it still has the knock/tick in the upper end(top) of motor but WE did not see anything when we took it apart. What would mis adjusted valves, rocker arms sound like I can wiggle some of the rocker arms/push rods by hand is that normal? could that be it??
Thanks,
Dustin
I drove it for about a year on less than 5psi oil pessure and with the noise and nothing blew or cracked, now have abou 1000 miles of rebuild and it just thier.

Man, I'm not sure if this will help at all but I had a similar problem in a 390 a few years ago. But it also had pretty bad valve clatter under a load too. I wasn't as alarmed with the tick as I was the clatter and I had the heads re-built by a speed shop here in town, they did some things to help the engine run off the lower octane unleaded fuels, 3 angle valve grinds, new valves, new and heavier springs and ported and pollished to match my gaskets. Anyway, the valve clatter and the tick went away, I always assumed I might have had a weak spring or two, but you may have replaced them already. Have you checked your oilers up top with the valve cover off and priming it with a drill?

Does it do it all the time? Or just under load? Did you have the rods checked and resized when you rebuilt it? New pistons or original? If original pistons, did you inspect them closely and check the pin and bore?
It's really hard to diagnose a noise over a computer
BTW. when the motor is not running, there is no oil pressure to the lifters, so they bleed down, creating extra clearance (you can move the ones at tdc)
