Okay, I am finally sick of the cupholder in my 99. It is so lame that drinks fall out the sides if you turn a corner like grandma. What year should I ask for at the dealer when I order a new one? Didn't they change the style to make them better at one point??

I had the same problem as you and made Ford chance it. They have a new style that is a 100% better. I guess a lot of people with 99s where raising hell.

 

My '02 has the new style and I think the 01's do as well. Don't know about prior to that. I'm sure someone else on the board will know.

I have the lousy cup holder as well. I went ot a dealer and they say the part number is the same for 2000, thru 2003 on the cup holder yet I know it is dirrerent in the 2002 truck. has anyone gotten the new one and replaced it. Is it just an easy replacement?

 

I thought the '99 cupholder was so lame, that I mounted a 12x12 piece of thin steel to it, added a stiffleg down to the center compartment, and now I have a great small workspace. Perfect for the laptop, or whatever else I might be doing.

Oh yeah, to hold my can of Coke, I mounted a double cupholder I found laying around from a previous project!

hey how much do the cup holders off the 00-03 trucks cost? are they hard to put in?

 

I went to 2 different dealers till I found one with the new cup holder unit. It is a 4 bolt swap in for the old (1999-March2000) SD trucks.
They changed to the new cupholder in March of 2000.

It cost me $57.00 (in virginia) It required me to remove the ash tray (4 bolts) so I could reach the two rear bolts on the old holder. and 4 bolts on the old Cup holder.
Now I have the new unit, and both ash trays. Ok so I have not got the snazzy Hat hook..
I'll survive.
