Upgrade the stereo

I am thinking of buying a f-250 crew cab with a PSD. I am not impressed with the factory radio. Does the 6disc system sound better than the single cd system? I am sure lots of you have upgraded to a aftermarket system, so could you please tell me what you used and how it worked out and sounded. When you change out the cd player to a aftermarket cd player, can you make it look really good in the dash like it is a factory cd player? Why did they put the rear speakers behind the back seat? They should of been in the rear doors. Thanks for any feedback.

I just installed a Panasonic in-dash cd player in mine with 4 new Polk speakers. Only cost 2 bills because of crutchfield's christmas specials and looks great. The aftermarket stereo adapter fits well and looks nice. The sound difference was phenomenal. I can now hear the stereo above the rattle of the engine, clearly and crisply. The whole install only took an hour or so because of how easy the door panels come off and how easy the radio adapter fit. Hope that helps.

Buy a dash adapter and it looks fine. Replacing the stock stereo is probably one of the first changes anyone makes to a new vehicle. Easy to do yourself and very cheap.

I installed an Alpine CD player in my f250 about 2 weeks after i bought the truck. Even with the stock speakers, it sounds good.

My "premium" system really isn't too bad--can bump enough to rattle the rear view mirror. Highs are a tick harsh but oh well, it's factory. The lesser systems are pretty crappy though. In a perfect world I would go with an Alpine in dash cd/dvd LCD unit, some CDT EuroSport components up front in kickpanels driven with a Cadence amp, CDT 6x8 coaxials in the rear stock locations ran off the deck, and perhaps something like a 10" Adire Brahma or Elemental Designs "A" Series subwoofer driven by a Cadence A7HC behind the rear seat in the crew cab. Be a very nice audiophile type system to satisfy my "old person's" desire for accurate reproduction over sheer obnoxious loudness! My next step is coming up with the 2 grand it would take to do it....

Just adding a deck with a better internal amp is going to make your stereo sound 100 times better though...

Check out Ikesound.com They have cheap prices and great customer service, quick shipping... Stay way from the off brands and go with an Alpine, Pioneer, etc...

Depending on what your looking for, just changing the speakers maybe it. I changed out mine with Pioneer 3 ways( $60 pair) and it is a HUGE difference over stock. I also added a small powered sub. Not perfect but I don't think about replacing the factory head unit any more.

Red face

That was the first thing I did. I installed a Kenwood HU, 6 disc Kenwood Changer, Infinity Signature Speakers, and a 300 watt amp. The sound is unbelievable. Installed it all. very easy. My wife gave me Sirius Satalite radio for Christmas, and the Kenwood HU is Sirius ready. easy add. You should hear Little Feat from 2 blocks away. LOL. I really like pulling up to those cars that BOOM BOOM, and drown them out with Classical. They hate it.

I would spend some money and get good front speakers. I put in sepperates with the factory head unit and they sound pretty amazing. You can always change the head unit later.
I personally wanted to keep the factory one. My 350 is alittle bouncy and I like the big buttons.

I kept the indash 6 cd installed Infinity perfect comps in the front doors kicker 800 watt amp and infinity basslink 200 watt behind the front driver seat. First and cheapest upgrade is speakers. bought all over ebay saved about $500 over Crutchfield.

Given I figure out to upload them, I could show some pix. My truck runs an Alpine 7861 cd player. Motorized faceplate etc. I have the stock door and rear speakers which really do sound good with the Alpine cd player. I also have 1 JL Audio 12W3 V2 subwoofer(in a junk box that I plan to upgrade) powered by a crossfire Vr302 amplifier. Sounds good too.
