Battery light

Okay, new problem, let's put our thinking caps on.

When I accelerate hard or rev the engine in neutral, when I hit about 3500rpm my battery light comes on. The battery 'gauge' does not move, but the light comes on. What's up???

Sounds like the alternator is going bad.Remove it and have it tested. Most parts stores will test them free.Let us know what you find wrong.

Why not just drive the truck to the store and have it tested while still on the truck? Easier IMO.

True 4.2,am I showing my age here? Ive taken vehicles to have an electrical test but they charged me for that. And,I have taken my alternators to parts stores to be tested. Can the parts stores test the alternotor on the vehicle? Ive never seen a tester they bring out to a car that specifically tests the alternator. I know they have the bench testers that can load the alternator and see if its working correctly. Its been years since ive had to have one tested.

Yea, in my town I can go down to the local Wal-Mart and they can check the battery, alternator, and starter for free any time I want. Now, the device they use doesn't exactly tell you it's bad, but it will tell you if it is charging properly or not. Also, another place called Wheat's Alternator shop checks them daily while still on the vehicle.

But what's up with the gauge never moving? I thought the idea of the gauge was to eliminate the "idiot light", or maybe I'm just the idiot. I can live with that, but this light thing bugs me. Maybe I'll run the problem by Ford and see what they say, besides " bring it in and we'll check it for you"
