Valve noise level

When I purchased my 5.4 V3, Saturday, I was surprised by the relatively loud clicking noise coming from the valves as it ran. It sounds like the engine is running out of oil. Of course the oil level was fine and the engine ran great. Does everyone else hear the same valve clicking noise on their 5.4's? It quite noticeable outside the cab and I can still hear it muffled in the cab with the radio off. I would appreciate any input.

Exclamation

Have it checked. I would not settle for that noise. My 5.4 is quiet and smooth.

I wonder if is there isn't a problem with some of these trucks. When I test drove them, two of the trucks I drove had loud engine noise, almost like a diesel but not near as loud. I test drove about ten trucks before deciding on one. The two with the loud engines had some miles on them. I figured they were just demos that had been driven hard.

I would not settle for that noise either, when mine is running i don't hear a single sound what so ever. Take it to ford and complain.

and also, drive on FWY around or about 65 to 75 mph, I can hear a little sqeaking aroung the rear passenger door area.

At my local dealer this morning, the guys were moving all the rigs for plowing the snow we got this weekend, therefore the keys were in all the F150s. I fired up a couple of crewcabs and found that the seemingly loud sound coming from the valves was normal for this engine. It must be associated with the 24 valves or something. It just seemed loud to me. My new truck was very impressive other than that initial worry. These new F150's are a great improvement over the last version.

A day or two after I picked my '04 Screw I noticed the loud clicking sound. I took a friend for a ride and she said, "is this a diesel?" I took it to the dealer...they said it was normal. I don't believe it because I had the oil changed at 2500 miles and the engine was dead quiet for about two days. The noise is back as loud as ever now so I guess it's back to Sunrise Ford where I will complain a little more forcefully.

i've had my fx4 for a month now. you should not hear any valve noise inside the vehicle. outside the vehicle, it is a little louder than the old 5.4l...there is some clicking sound that i guess is the valves but nothing compared to a diesel!

Mine has a little tick noise which I can hear when standing outside the vehicle. I thought to myself that it kinda sounds like a muffled diesel engine. I thought it was just normal noise, but now that I read this, I'm a little concerned. I'll be listening for it tonight when I get off work. I'll drive home with the radio off and see if I can hear it from inside the cab.

If this is a problem, then it is a big big problem. There are just too many rigs with the same described sound. I have concluded it is really quiet inside the cab. I can hear the clicking noise if I really concentrate, but it does make that clicking noise outside the cab. Has gbl56 or anyone heard anything more from the dealer shop? Remember we are talking about the 24 valve 5.4 L

I have an 04 Fx4 and have heard the noise too.

I think its normal for that to happen. Even the old ones do it a little. But let me know if you find something.

is it simply the fuel injectors? they cycle jsut as much as the valves and are an electronic "switch"
that is what i hear. sounds like a lifter tick on my 1970 buick skylark
