Truck Avenger Carb
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has tried this carb and has had any luck with it.
I am leaning towards getting one, but cannot decide between the 670 or 770.
My 84truck has a 460 with 8.6:1 compression a Comp4x4 cam, steath intake and has less than 1000 miles on the rebuilt.
The truck is used to tow, plow, daily driver and off-road where it fits.

Hi Mudman,
My '74 F-100 has the same engine as yours; a "tad" higher compression (under 10:0) and my Avenger 770 works great. 10 miles per gallon if I drive like a maniac or an old lady....vacuum secondaries with a Mallory dizzy; straight up timing and headers.
All I've had to do to the carb in the last year or so is set the float level a little more to my liking and change the fuel filters...

I run the Street Avenger 870 on my 460Bronco, basically the same carb, but have had to make several changes from due to the cam creating low vacuum and fast idle speed.
For a stock or nearly stock application, I'd go with Edelbrock. Thry're the best plug&play carburetor I've used on the 460.

Those charts using displacement and RPM don't tell the whole story. The cam, induction, and exhaust system have a great impact as well as the compression and intended useage. That being said, the 770 sounds like the perfect choice for this motor. I am using a 670 (street avenger) on my Vette with a 355 chebby, and it is just about right. The 870 would be my choice for the 460 IF it was more racing use than street, or at least a more radical engine.

I think I will go with the 770 when I up grade, but for now I was able to make the 4160 600cfm run better. Right now the engine really takes off at 3000 rpms.
I was leaning towards the 670 for better throttle response and driveability but I want to make sure I am not limiting the motors power potential. For some reason it seems to me that the truck likes the holley better than the edlebrock.

I've used a Carter 625CFM carb ( a long time backup carb) on mild 460s and found that in normal driving up to 'cleaning it out' I couldn't tell that much difference between it and a 750CFM Edelbrock or Holley unit. No fuel mileage difference, but a positive increase in torque obove 3000rpm with the 750 for those times when what you have is important.
