Veterans Day, Another Thought

The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month, 1918, The end of what we now know of as World War Two. We celebrated this day as Armistice Day in the United States until 1954, where after it has been known as Veterans Day.

In remembering my service to the United States, I could not help but wonder who of you that have access to this place may have at one time or another faced me across the “Fence”.

Did we catch a glimpse of one another in Southeast Asia? Did we exchange stony stares at Check-Point-Charlie? Were you one of the Hundreds of Soviet Union Army Troops that day in Gander, New Foundland, when I was the only American in uniform? Maybe Central Africa or the Middle East?

If you were I salute you as Veterans.

Also If you were, I welcome you.

This is not a brag that “We Won”, “We” didn’t, You did, for if you didn’t win, you would not have the freedom to do such things as visit this Site. To gain that freedom you had to serve your nation until such time that “Freedom” was yours.

Be proud and use that Freedom well.

...A little trivia
Hitler forced the French to sign their surrender in the exact same rail car as the Germans did in WW1...His idea of poetic justice.
