guys , i can't unlock my steering wheele to start my truck, it's a 1991 f-150. for some reason the key goes in but won't unlock the steering wheele lock.i have tried everything.
can someone please tell me if this is something i can do on my own at home and what will i need.
i know i have to turn the key to the on position to get the lock pin and pull the lock out ,but now that the key is stuck locked what do i do to release the pin. please help .

 

Try putting a decent amount of pressure on the steering wheel in either direction, while turning the key. Did you park on a hill, or have the wheels turned hard when you parked last? A lot of times the pressure to the steering system will drop, when you turn off the truck, and the steering will try to straighten the wheels, locking the steering wheel even harder.

 

Remove the plastic cover on the bottom side of the steering column. On the side of the housing that holds the lock cylinder you'll see a small hole about 1/8 inch diameter. Insert a center punch or similar object to depress the retainer and the cylinder should pull out. Your key might also be worn, thats what happened on mine anyway. Good luck.

willthe retainer still pop out whilst lock is locked or does it have to be turned to the on position? which i cant get to turn.
the key s seem ok i'm thinking maybe the whole lock is cooked cause i did notice it getting stiffer and stiffer to turn.f**k!

 

f**k , i had to distroy the whole lock by forcing all sorts of stuff in it and i had a thousands of fragments of the lock everywhere, so i went to checker for a replacemaent and just put the thing back in there ,and it works.
