90 F150 Inline Six Runs Poor

Doesn't want to run at all when cold. When hot it sputters at cruising speed and lacks power. Mielage sucks as well. Did tune-up,replaced fuel filter and pump relay. Cleaned throttle body. What's next? I need to solve this fast because I'm sick of my wife telling me,"I TOLD YOU SO" for trading a good running, good mielage, minivan for this rig. Thanks in advance for your help.

George ,
First off congrats on losing the mini van . How many miles on your truck ? Do you know when the last time the plugs , spark plug wires and dist cap were replaced . Not saying they are bad , but its a good place to start looking . Also the air filter is important to smooth opeation as well as fuel pressure . Its possible you have an enrichment problem ? Check for any stored fault codes . Your engine should run smoothly throughout its operating range . Let us know what you find .

Thanks for the reply Paul. I did change the plugs,Wires,Cap,Rotor,Air filter and Breather along with the fuel filter and fuel pump relay. Ran a little better in between the misses after cleaning the throttle body. Check Engine Light never comes on so I doubt if it's throwing codes. I am taking it in tomorrow to have it put on the scope. Hope they can find something.

The shop traced the problem to the MAP sensor. The voltage was off the scale. It runs about 80% better now. There is still a slight miss at cruising speed on occasion. Fuel mielage appears to be better as well. Thanks for all the help.

How many miles on this bad boy? I replaced my EGR Valve and pos. sensor (on a hunch) and It took care of a lot of my rough running conditions. I still have more problems, but the EGR was a lot of it. You might pull it off and see if the valve looks corroded and if the seat is pitted/corroded.

It's got 162,000 on the clock. Don't know if the motor has been gone through or not. It appears to be tight yet. Doesn't smoke or use oil. The body is pretty decent, title states that it was previously titled in Texas so it hasn't gone through too many Wisconsin winters with the road salt. I am happy with the way it's running now but will keep your advise in mind for the future.I am looking for a cap for the short-bed if anyone has a line on one in the Wisconsin area.
