Powerstroke just stopped running, need help ASAP
I was driving my 2000 F-350 with the powerstroke diesel yesterday and without warning the motor just stopped running. I coasted it to the side of the road and had to have it towed because it wouldn't start. Everything seemed fine and it would turn over but wouldn't start. It was like I ran out of gas but I had a 1/2 tank. I thought maybe I got some bad fuel and the filter was really clogged up but when I took it out it was fine. (I replaced it anyway). Then I was thinking fuel pump but that couldn't be it because if that were the case it would still start and run until it ran all the fuel out of the fuel filter housing right? The dang thing still won't start. It's sitting at the dealer right now but I was hoping someone would be able to give me some direction on what could be the problem. I have an extended drivetrain warranty on this truck and I don't want to be screwed by the dealer.

Here's a couple of links that contain part #'s, location of the sensor, and how to change it. I would recommend getting it from International since it's usually half the cost of Ford.

I'm interested in knowing if the Cam Position Sensor would fix your problem. Our 1996 F350 crewcab is also having the same problem as yours. We haven't taken it in to be looked at (yet). I would hate to buy this part if it really isn't the problem. Maybe you could ask your dealership about this sensor???
Wouldn't the "Injector XXX Module" cause your engine to not start at all?? Ours starts, runs for a while, then stops. We try to start it again and it doesn't start (just cranks). If we let it sit for a while, its starts again, but stops after a bit.

Cute,
You should buy a cam sensor and keep it as a spare in your truck at all times. Even if it isn't the source of your current problem.
It is the most common item that fails, the cheapest and easiest component to replace yourself.
Believe me $80.00 for a spare sensor is a lot less then getting stranded roadside and paying fo a 100 mile tow to a Ford garage and adding their repair costs.

If it is the CPS the truck will usually restart after it sits and cools for a bit.. Then run for usually about 30-seconds and stall again.. Repeat...
The IDM usually fails on one side or the other, so you loose one bank of cylinders and it runs rough with very low power.
Most mechanics now only rely on the computer telling them what the issue is. The ol' 7.3 doesn't have much so it will send the code mechanics all over the place
for things that are caused by the real fault and not to the fault itself..
I would ask them if they started it on a spare IDM or is it just a code they are chasing.
