Check Engine Codes: PO300 & PO340 - Suggestions?
I own a 1997 Ford Aerostar, 3.0, short chassis, 158,000 miles, (My wife and I love it!)
My check engine light came on so I took it by the good folks at AutoZone and they pulled off the following codes w/ their computer:
PO300: "Multiple Cylinder Misfire"
PO340: "Camshaft Position Sensor"
My questions are:
1) Would the same condition cause both of these codes to register on the computer?
2) Is this serious, (and expensive)?
3) Would a tune-up, (replacing plugs and wires), give me the best chance of solving the issue?
4) Any other suggestions?
Note: I replaced the air filter about a week prior to the light coming on...related?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
Jim

I don't know enough about the 3.0 or OBD II systems to answer your questions with confidence, but I would do a tune up if you haven't done one in a while. It's always good to know that the plugs, wires, etc., are good before you try troubleshooting. Otherwise, you could spend a lot of time trying to fix something that turned out to be simple, like bad plug wires.
