Question Performance spark plug wires?

I am planning to replace plugs and wires on my ranger, and am interested in anyone's experience with aftermarket performance wires. I was lookng at Taylor wires, 10+ mm, and the pricing is about right, 60.00 a set. Anybody else try these yet, I am open for suggestions.

Not to pop the ballon or anything, but if you're looking for more spark power, you should look at the coil block first instead of the wires, go to the source of the electricity and not to the conductor. Granted that the wires will give you a cleaner conduction, but the spark is the same, unless you increase the power to it. I might be wrong, but is something that I learned while in college (B.S. in Electronics - 14 yrs ago). Just adding my .02.

P.S. Just my opinion and trying to save you $60. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me, I'm here to learn new things

It will be hard to improve on the OEM EDIS coil pack!! The best
thing you can do is make sure you use double platinum plugs when you replace them.

Yes they do come for DIS, not sure for the Ranger but they surely have it for the Mustang V6 - MSD Digital DIS-4 - PN 6215

You remove the harness from the coil pack and connect it to this and then conect the module to the coil pack.

Well, since this topic has gone way beyond a simple question about spark plug wires, and no one has apparently installed any aftermarket wires, I guess I'm on my own with this one. Thanks for all the "expert" advise.

I have heard good things about the Taylors but I don't have any personnel experience.

aftermarket wires only reduce resistance from the distributor to the plug. if you don't upgrade the distributor or coil packs, it doesn't make that much of a difference. There's your "expert advise"

Well, at least I got some kind of answer. And yes, I do know the advantages to installing aftermarket wiring. What I am mainly after are any specific recommedations, anybody who has actually replaced the factory cables with an aftermarket set, and their experiences thereof, as to fit, quality, possible driveability issues, etc. I am not interested in investing thousands of dollars to build a race truck, I just want an efficient running pickup, to acheive the best possible fuel mileage and maintain the best performance possible.

Stick to the stock ones, I just installed some aftermarkets and started getting ping and knock out of the engine, put the stock back and it went away.

Ranger, my guess that is because the higher spark from the aftermarket wires were heating up the cylinder more. My guess is that your stock wires are bad, and not causing enough spark to heat up the chamber properly. I would put the aftermarket wires back in, then either put in a phenolic spacer, or use higher octane fuel.

as for what brand of wires to buy, I personally like MSD wires. they are about $70.00 for the vulcan set.

Sorry to differ here, but when I installed the aftermarket wires, it pinged and knock (using high octane fuel). I did a test and put my old Stock wires back, same octane, no pinging. Now, hows that posible?, if you said that the aftermarket spark is "more" then I shouldn't have the ping.
