Carb Problems on a 390 FE

Im having a slight problem with my 390.
I go to fire it up, it acts like its out of gas...
I dump some gas in the carb, it fires up and I have to keep it running for a second before it pumps fuel.
Whats the problem?
The fuel pump is good, the carb is in good shape
and I have no leaks.
It didn't do it with my 2 barrel set up before rebuild
and it didn't do it as much w/ the 650 Holley I had
Now i have a 750 and I don't know whats wrong.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Sounds like to me that somehow your front bowl is not holding fuel and you are starting with it empty.

You say it is not leaking on the outside , but ( I am grasping at staws here) could it be leaking internally into the intake? How long does it have to set before you have trouble starting it? Over night? A few hours? Minutes?

Good luck,

Couple hours or more...
I dump some fuel in it, it fires right up,
Let it sit like 6 hours, gotta dump fuel in it again
And it doesnt seem to be flooded when I try to start it from it leaking in side

Sounds like either a bad power valve, or a crack in the bowl that allows fuel to leak down into the intake after it is shut off. Then when it cools back down the crack may seal up. The crack may only expand enough to leak after shutdown because this is when it gets the hottest.
