Exhaust (cat)

What year is your truck?

The year will determine the OBD system it uses and will tell you if the cats operation is monitored or not.

My 89 has complete dual exhuast, and the convertor and preheater were removed. I haven't seen any problems except for during WOT the check engine light comes on intermitently.

88 doesn't monitor the cat. It can be removed.

There is a little to worry about dealing with no backpressure and exhaust reversion, but it sounds like you aren't too worried about that.

The truck should run fine with no cat. Just plug the air pump tube that is between the cats if you remove them completely.

Heck you might as well remove the whole air pump system to the heads and exhaust.
