Y PIPE options
But I cant afford that much exhaust system right now!
Im curious though, my step father who is a service manager at a ford dealership in WV told me that the service bulletin recommended the upgraded Y-pipe for my 2000. Well does that mean they want to update it with the same thing as the 2001 on up then? Isnt it more restrictive? IF it is, it still has the same Horsepower and torque numbers, so is something different BEYOND the Y-pipe on the 2001 on up models to make up the difference? He also said that after the new Y-Pipe Ford wants the PCM recalibrated/reprogrammed, so maybe they make it up with timing or something? I dunno, I just want a quiet Truck!

The one on the 01 is crap! it is super small and is a T not a Y!
Have a shop run your primary tubes to just in front of the cat then add a Y there. This moves the mixing gasses futher back. Or just have them cut the crappy T out and put in a good Y right where it is.
Also check you trans shield that could be your niose. It was for me and many others even after Ford tried every fix in the book.
All you gotta do is tap it with you finger if it make a noise against the trans the grad it with pliers and twist. This put a crimp and stiffens it some.
Someone else made one out of thicker material and to me that is the smart move!

I like the Idea but read on here where people who have done that have not had good results, meaning more noise and moving the torque higher up in the RPMS, Etc.. and someone actually said DONT DO IT, MINES A DISASTER.
Ford has GOT to have a Fix for this that doesnt rob any power.

I did it and it was a diaster. More noise than I ever had. I had mine cut off right below the O2 sensors, ran 2.5 inch pipes back, had a custom Y that fed the Flowmaster 70 series muffler, no cat. Talk about a loud sounding POS. Sounded like a V-6 on steroids, real metallic, ringing sound. So loud after driving 15 minutes you had a headache. Went back and installed cat. sounded better, but still loud. I experimented with cat and muffler positioning, and even modified the Y again. Still sounded horrible. Also I tow quite a bit. The torque really moved up in the RPM band, especially with the cat removed (free flowing). Finally could not stand it, took a sazall and cut all the crap out. Installed Borla headers and problem solved. I spent so much money moving and experimenting I was close to the price of the headers. If I were you I would start dropping my pennies in the piggy bank and save for Banks or Borla headers like Monsta suggested. I wasted alot of money and time fooling around with mine.
I'm currently running the Borla headers, 3 inch pipe back to the Flowmaster 70 series muffler, 3 inch tail pipe with a 3.5 inch slash cut stainless steel tip. Sound awesome at idle, a real deep rumble. I get lots of looks and comments on the idle. When you rev. it up it will get a little raspy. I don't have a sound clip. If you go to "JKBridges" site he has a sound clip that sounds very similar to mine. Also added a Diablo chip. The header and chip made this thing really rock.
Good luck......... If you need more info let me know. Old stuff is out laying in the barn if someone would like to try it. It's headed to the dump next spring.
