Average Mileage for first 900 miles
If any of you truck owners really care that much, we have been averaging 15.5 mpg for pure city driving to and from work and for the first highway haul about 17-18 (had some city driving in it) on the new FX-4 Supercrew. Don't have a cover on the bed yet and I averaged about 75-80 mph.
BTW gps checked speedo is about 3 mph off on our truck with the 18 inch rims and BF Goodrich Rugged Off Road tires.
Not bad considering the avalanche got the same and the bed was covered and had less hp. Not sure on weight but I think the avalanche was heavier.

Wow, great mileage especially since the 2004 weighs about 500 lbs more than a 2003 and the engine is not yet broken in.
Does the FX-4 Supercrew have the 4.6 or 5.4? Since all 2004's have the auto tranny that is a given. What rear axle ratio? Do you know what the EPA sticker said as far as mileage?
I am driving a 2003 4.6 manual 3.55 rear 4 x 4 scab with 6k on the odo. I see mid 17s at best on a trip. May eek out 17 with 1/2 city and 1/2 hiway but that means real conservative driving.
Ford must be doing some great things with their engine, transmissions, computers etc.

Average Mileage for first 900 miles
On my 3rd full tank fill up I averaged 15.3 mpg over 380 miles(50% 73mph highway, 40% rolling hills on rural roads, and 10% city). I have the 3.73 gears as well and the computer was reading 15.7 mpg. All three times that I have filled up the computer was off 4/10 to 6/10 of a mpg. This is consistent with the error on the computerized mileage on our Explorer as well.

Ran my XL last week for 144 mi a day on freeway driving. It was some good 65mph times and a lot of stop and go. My 150 is a supercab, 5.4L, 4.10 gears, 8 ft bed.
One very bad day that kept me mostly frustrated and my driving habit was not conductive to any kind of milage I got about 13 mpg. But the best day, Friday, I ran 16.5 mpg.
We are heading out on Monday for a three state trip pulling about 5500 lbs. So I am very anxious to see how this thing tows.
I will drop in a note on the list here when I get back. Just LOVE this truck!

I think my 04 SCrew Lariet, with 5.4 and 3.73 might have a problem seeing the last few posts. It looks like 12.2 first tank and 12.4 second tank, mostly 70mph on interstate.I'll give a little time before doing the exhust and chip.Pics coming, this was my Xmas present to me.I read alot of the threads here, went out and found my new toy Xmas eve.

I still can't bslieve 15 to 17 in city traffic for a 04 FX4 4x4.
The best i can pull for a full tank on my Lariat 4x4 is 12 to
14. Also the claim of 17 to 18 at 80 mph is suspect. the
faster you go past 60mph the more fuel these trucks burn.
Fuel milage at 6o=17 at 70=16 at 80=14.5.
Just some real world milage from Chicago.

I don't know how the EPA calculates mileage, but they are extremely optimistic. As an aside, my father-in-law has an 04 quadcab Hemi and we both drove out to some in central NY. The trip was 300 miles round trip and we both filled up together before we left. The trip was all interstate at 75 mph. My 04 F150 15.9 mpg. His 04 Hemi 12.3 mpg. OUCH! I didn't buy my truck for fuel mileage, but that difference will really hit the pocket book over 70,000 miles to the tune of a little over $2,000. But I do admit that truck makes great power...
