Who should replace Mr Heston as President of the NRA?
Hmm, when setting up the poll, there are 10 choices, but after posting the poll there are only 8. Rick Schroder and Dalai Lama were the ones cut. I read a quote from Dalai Lama one time and that's why I included him. "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun."
One of the choices is a klinker, just to see if wolfy is paying attention

I went with Ton Selleck because he seems to be a good speaker and debater. I never saw the episode, but from what I heard, he really put Rossie O'Dungball in her place when he was the guest on her show. Heston is a fine speaker when he has a prepared speech, but he is not good at debating against the liberal media.

I chose Tom Selleck.
Nugent's outspoken views on hunting would act as a lightning rod to the liberal press. He would always be embroiled in controversy. The NRA would spend it resources defending itself from the animal rights people instead of those who try to deprive us of our second amendment rights.

the only reason i think ted is soo outspoken about hsi hunting movines is because he gets the worst criticism about them from the media. i have watched a few and they arent any worse than the hunting shows on tnn. but i think he would be a good candidate because he is out spoken and can handle a debate very well. but i dont kow about tom, dont know if he would be a good choise. sux for mr heston, my grandma died from that disease a couple of years ago, man its soo sad to see people when they are as bad as she was, its like they are just a body with no mind.

Who should replace Mr Heston as President of the NRA?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Aug-02 AT 07:19 PM (EST)]My Grandfather was once put up to run against him for president. Of course he didn't win, nobody knew who he was. I don't even know how it all happened, I just know that Mr. Heston sent him an autographed picture.

Tom Selleck would be very good for the NRA but he does not appear to enjoy confrontation. I thought about him quite a bit but Ted N. will not shy away from any confrontation and will do a expert job defending the NRA. As far as the animal thing I don't think that will be a problem. The NRA already has to deal with them anyway. After all, a lot of the arguments against guns also attack hunters. He has demonstrated that he teaches ethical hunting. His name is on a bow - not a gun.
Besides, he is a Ford man.
I would question how Ted and Wayne L. would get along. Wayne would also be a very good choice. He is more polished than Ted is but just as strong in his views.

You just wait & see how fast NRA membership numbers drop, and support is withdrawn, if Ted Nugent becomes president. Ted is a comical suggestion, but one that some NRA people take seriously.
Now we all have to admit some people in/of the NRA are really out-of-touch extremists, and it would be those who actually think Ted Nugent would be a 'respected' member of society to help gain support for their (or our) cause. Personally, I can't believe the debate still includes him.
Defending the NRA is one thing. Gaining additional support and leading a pro-active presidency is another. Get that stragiht, NRA-members, 'cause if all you're looking for is a defense, you'll lose the fight (eventually) as sure as sh^t.
The bothersome thing I see is that it seems that some of the strongest members of the NRA are doing the same thing - asking if Nugent wouldn't be a good choice. If you have to even ask, you shouldn't be in charge or tying your own shoes. :+
