I'd try the audio forum a little farther down the page. You'll probably get better results there. Personally, OEM radios are the first thing I change when I get a vehicle.

Yeah, there often is. Alot of it has to do with equalization, did it have a subwoofer etc. I don't know if there is really a way to know for sure. I saw a breakdown of some of them somewhere. But I think it was the explorer only ones, there were 15 different ones for a particular year.

The equilization is different and one designed for a different vehicle will not sound good in your truck. I tried one that had cd/cassette in my truck that was equilized for an Explorer and the bass responce was terrible. It didn't hardly have any, so I put the single cd back in. This was a brand new stereo from the local assembly plant.

LX, you probably got the one for a subwoofer. I had that very problem. It was super clear sounding but no bass resopnse. I traded it out for a different but exact same radio and it was 10 times better bass response, but not really as clear. I didn't want to install the sub though. I listed to the sub radio setup in an explorer and it sounds really good though.

You might be right, it did have terminals in the amp portion of the plugs.
