New to V10's and scratching my head a bit
I've been reading these forums a bit already, but have some questions. I recently got a 2000 F250 4x4, 5spd manual, v10 with 51,000 miles. I like the truck so far, however it has a quirk I need to fix.
When driving down the road, I get a shudder/hesitation in the engine at 2100 to 2250rpm. Above this it smooths out, below it it is also smoother. This is empty, as I have not had a chance to truly put a load on the truck yet. I got a OBD II reader, (which sadly enough died in about a month) and I get no consistent codes. I once saw a "multiple random misfires detected" which went away, and another time I had a "cylinder 9 misfire" which also went away. However the condition is completely repeatable, but the codes don't come up.
The truck seems to have sat more than run (gauging from the low miles) so I first figured I'd drive awhile, with some fuel cleaner to see if it would clear up, and while it seems to run better, this issue remains.
So, I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I suspect from what I have been reading that it is an ignition issue, am leaning towards a full on plug, COP, boot replacement, but would prefer not to if there is a possible other solution. Also if I do need to go that route, I have been reading the various opinions on what COP's to get: either buy aftermarket or take out a mortgage and buy from Ford.
So open to thoughts and ideas.
Eric

I would put new plugs, boots and springs in it first, then see where that gets you.
While your mileage is very low the rubber boots are almost 18 years old and may be degraded enough to be leaking some spark out into the head vs going to the plugs at times.
Spark plugs, Motorcraft SP-479 (follow the correct installation procedure and slightly over torque)
Boot and springs, Denso 671-0001 (Denso is the OEM manufacturer)
COPs, Denso 673-6000 (again, the OEM manufactured and much cheaper than MC). There is no need to ever replace a COP unless it proven to be bad, they last a very long time typically.
