The Ford manuals and diagrams do have mistakes. That diagram shows two red/lightblue wires coming from the start circuit. There is no need for two. And I don't think the modules have a red/lightblue going directly into the module. The white wire is the correct one.
P.S. I have the factory manual for my 86 ranger. I just got done redoing the 2.9 v6. They call for 5 turns on the adjuster for the valves. No way that would have worked, it's 1/2-1 turn like all other engines with adjustable hydraulic lifter valvetrains..
