Back to Ford - new 150 owner

Hello, I'm Mike in Southern California. After having several Ford trucks over the years, I took a detour a few years ago. I sold my F-250 with the 6.4 motor for a few different reasons, and purchased a low mileage GMS 2500HD with the gas-guzzling 8.1 and Allison trans. What a pile of junk! After yet another breakdown and being unwilling to toss another $1k at it for yet another repair I've come back home!

I hope to be back here more frequently after a long hiatus after the F-250. I've spent some time on another big 150 forum and honestly it's really frustrating with SO many ads and popups that it makes performance terrible at times. I get the need for them, but there is a point in which it severely impacts the experience. Sorry...rant over.

Oh, how times have changed! I've had F150s, F250s, Expeditions, Broncos, etc. over the years but the level of functionality and features to be found on the new trucks amaze me. It was really tempting to be hypnotized by the added bling of the higher trim level models, but in the end I got a pretty loaded up XLT that will fit my needs just perfectly.

Grabbed a sweet deal on a 2017 Ruby Red Supercrew with the 3.5 EB and 10-speed transmission. Made sure it had the HD tow package and the yet to be tested tow assist. Sync 3 with Sync Connect brings the technology together and we are off and running. Line-X goes in soon, and I'll look for some better floor mats (Weathertech?) and maybe seat covers (Wet Okole?).

Looking forward to wasting time...errr, researching topics....here moving forward.

Mike

Yes, welcome back. I've tried two GMCs over the past 15 years. Both were purdy... and repair queens.

You'll love your new truck more and more with each passing day.

Great looking truck, Welcome back!
I have the WeatherTech floor liners, I've also heard good reviews of the Husky liners.

Thanks. Which Weathertechs do you have? It looks like there are a couple of different options

I have the Weathertechs, and they are great. However, they are hard plastic, and there are conditions/situations that will make them "slippery". If I need to replace them, I would probably go with the Husky mats, as they are made of rubber (less slippery).

Great looking truck. Of course I'm partial to the Ruby Red!

I'll throw one more option for floor mats out there. I've been pleased with my MaxFloormats from Maxliner-usa. Price was right and the look good and have great coverage. I bought the full set including the rear mat that provides full coverage. Probably can't go wrong with any of the options mentioned here. My decision was somewhat based upon price.

Enjoy the new truck!

I agree with this. One of the rental trucks at work had the Weathertech and I agree that they are slippery when wet. I bought Husky's for my truck and couldn't be happier.

I buy Husky floor liners I think they are much better that Weather Tech.

Congrats on the new truck. You can't go wrong with Husky, WeatherTec or Michelin Edge liners. They all fit great and provide excellent protection. I have WeatherTec in my new F150, they fit nice. The rear mat covers the entire back including under rear seat.

Based on the thread title I thought this was going to be a rant at first lol. Beautiful truck and a beautiful color. I totally agree with as you stated the pull of the higher trim levels. I'll be dropping my order this week but at this point I've narrowed it down to either an XLT or Lariat with the Sport and Special Edition packages. Good luck with the new rig and welcome back to the Ford fold.

Eco Boost Torq.

So from all the trucks you had, V8's, Diesel, How does your new 3.5 EB. compare?

There is no contest, the EcoBoost is my favorite engine of all time. My one and only diesel is my least favorite of all time.

Lol! I can totally relate to how you feel about the 'little v6". I was very skeptical for sure. In my mind there could simply be no comparison. However, after reviewing the specs and finding towing and payload capabilities way better than I thought I decided to try it.

I've not towed with it yet, but I do not expect any problems. On the road there is plenty of power and torque and I've surprised myself with that more than once. The first time when I need to get around a car and I did my usual mash of the throttle and it shot off like an agile little sports car. Obviously big differences there but the point being that I've Ning felt any need for more. This rig is night day from my last Triton 5.4. Better in every way and 20+mpg too!

Mike
