BJ I hate to hear that your wife has cancer so I do want you to know that I and my family are praying for her and you and she can kick this. I am sure that all the other FTE'ers also have her in their prayers.

Gear ratios selection is not just about final RPM, tire size and generic engine (I have a Y block), yea that may get you into the ballpark but it also includes type of transmission (auto, manual, ratios in the trans), converter stall in autos, cam in the engine, heads, induction system, has the engine been balanced and planned use. In general most would probably be better and happier with performance running a slightly lower (bigger number) ratio than a higher (lower number) ratio. That being said I personally would probably never run a higher gear than a 3.50 in a 9" with a modern style (60's-90's) V-8 for general driving and fun.

Yes know your engines powerband and all other specs involved but most importantly is usage
