M5R2 Shift Rail popped out of access hole of top cover
92 f150 302 with the m5r2. Truck was stuck in 2nd gear and the shifter sat in an "exagerated" 2nd gear position nearly touching the bench seat. I pulled off the top cover and the 1-2 shift rail was popped out through the access hole. The spring and ball bearing came out of the trans when i drained the fluid. Lucky me! I have a rebuit complete top cover which has a crack in it and never installed which has all the parts (shift rails, shift forks, springs, pins, bearings) I will need to repair my existing top cover. My shift forks have been replaced before and the wear is minimal. Can somebody explain a sequence to how i can manually move each shift rail to replace these parts? Seems to be very tight and I rather not be rough with it. Thank you for reading.

The forks are held in place by roll pins as are other parts on the rails. Use a roll pin punch to get the forks out or you will be replacing them. You do not need to completely remove the rails to get the forks out. Several recent threads on this within the last month or so. Check those out for some tips and clarity. Also there are other parts that you need to replace that will be in the threads. Any help you need just continue to use this thread. Welcome. Sandy
