1970 f-250 exhaust

I am looking at upgrading the exhaust on my 1970 f250 Camper Special truck. It has two tanks on it which I've heard is a problem when switching to dual exhaust, but was wondering if anyone has done it. I plan on getting a new exhaust manifold and complete dual exhaust/muffler/glass packs. Any suggestions on what to get guys? Thanks

edit: just the exhaust headers would possibly be replaced, I'd rather just link up to what I got....

For dual exhaust, most will opt to run a crossover tube from the driver side, under the bell, to the passenger side and then the tubing parallel to frame.

Alternatively, merge the tubes into a single 3-inch system and a single muffler.

3/4-length headers (like Sanderson PN FF427 headers) are easier to install than long tubes... and they don't trap the starter. Plus it the FF427 is of high quality.

Since I have the auxiliary tank would that get in the way of running alongside the frame? I would really like dual, but from what I've read it doesn't work out for these trucks. Would I have to unmount the engine to install the sanderson's?

You have left and right tanks? Hmm...

That's the beauty of the Sandersons... ya don't have to unbolt and jack up the engine to install em.

Well, I have a tank just behind the seat as well as under the box on the driver's side door. That's good to know about Sandersons.... seem pretty affordable too.

Running both pipes off of the header collectors into one and then into one high flow muffler should allow the engine to breath just as well if not better than a true dual exhaust. You could run two pipes out of the muffler for that dual look if you wanted to.

I have dual exhaust pipes and they were run just like HIO suggested in post#2. I have the mid-ship (AUX) tank too.

Is this what we are talking about? Sounds like if I run it along passenger side I should be able to get it to work true dual exhaust... thanks guys

Technically they're not as efficient as long tubes but week worth less hassle. I opted for them on both my F100 and F250.

True... it's all about sizing.... 2.5-inch true duals is the typical max for these trucks... if merging, then 2.5s into a single 3-inch is perfectly acceptable.

That's them. You can also order directly from Sanderson too... ceramic coated ones!

Jumpin in here, I have a 70 f100 360 true dual stock manifold and aux tank that runs long paralell to driver side frame rail with a rock guard cover. The pipe crosses to the outside of the frame behind the the steering runs inside the fenderwell over the axel and out behind the tire. I bought it that way. I don't think it's 2 1/2 and the pipe narrows at the bends. Not ready to replace yet...

I've heard the Sanderson ff427 headers will not clear a bendix style gearbox, and that you need a driver side ff390 header to make the system work. Does anyone have experience with this?

replace exhaust manifold with after market high flow manifold and run 2 pipes straight to the bumper installing your mufflers where they fit

Not me but I remember someone on here had to do that. Don't remember who.

I have a 70 F250 Camper Special and cant seem to find exhaust. I also have 2 tanks so just want replacement stock exhaust.
Went to the local shop and they couldn't get the parts either.

Anyone with tips on where to buy stock pipes from the manifold all the way back?
