Yet another tire question

I have a 2015 F150 XLT Scab 5.0L that has 32k on the clock. The factory tires are basically gone so it's time to start looking. I'm planning on putting a 2" leveling kit up front, nothing to the rear. I will be running the stock chrome 18" rims. I'm thinking about the General Grabber AT2 in a 275/65R18. This truck is a daily driver on the highway. About the only off roading will be to get to my trailer at the back of the 3.5 acres. I want a quiet tire with a moderate aggressive look. I keep reading conflicting reports on road noise from these tires. Can anyone tell me if these are a noisy tire or not?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

I have almost 13,000 om my Hankooks that came on the truck and really like them. They have very good traction on wet roads and have a slightly aggressive tread, quit running, and have worked well in what little mud that I have been in.

When I took mine in for service the last time, I was told I may need new tires before the next service. The stock Hankooks on mine are just about at the wear indicator (all 4) with only 30K miles. True, they do ride nice, but wear way too fast. I'm also looking for a larger tire to fill the wheel wells up more. I just don't want a noisy AT tire for highway use.

You can go with a 275/70/18. BF Goodrich makes a Rugged Trail in that size that's P rated. 33" tall and quiet. I also like Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos for a quiet, smooth ride. I have Toyo Open Country A/T Extremes and they are quite noisy.

285/65/18 is also an option. Those are right at or under 33" depending on who makes them. All tire companies vary a little on size.

I have 295/70/18s on my truck 34.3" tall and they fit well on a stock wheel with a 2.25" leveling kit. It doesn't sound like you want that much tire though.

No experience withe the Grabber A/T IIs, but I see a lot of good reviews.

I'm assuming your tire is a 275/65 R18 right now. May I ask why you're looking at a leveling kit if you're not going with a larger tire? My truck came with that size tire (275/65 R18) and it doesn't fill up the wheel well enough IMO. I'm looking at tires as well, but maybe going to a 275/70 to add another inch in diameter. Not sure that needs a leveling kit...

Stock tires are 265/60r18 They are only 30" in diam. I want the leveling kit to get rid of most of the ugly rake they put on these things. Then, with the body raised up, I need a larger tire .....

OH, Nice looking truck.

Ahh, okay. So here's my rig with the OEM 275/65 R18 tires. I've got about 500lbs of gear in the back, but still have a 2" rake. If you want to fill up the wheel wells better, I'd go larger than what I have.

OH, Nice looking truck.

Thanks. Didn't realize you were 2wd. I think the tire sizes I mentioned above would look just right with a levelling kit.

Mine is stock in the rear. The 295s have no cupping after 9k miles and no rotaions. I'm going to put a taller rear block in soon to get an inch of rear lift.

I agree with your sizes. Some of those are hard to locate in a P metric and/or not be a $300 tire..... The Grabber AT2 come with a 60K mile warranty and a 30 day trial period. I may give them a try and if they are too noisy go with Yoko's or similar.

I had those on my 2005 GMC and they were as good as the K/Os. Did cut fuel mileage. Had to go with a tire that had a little less aggressive tread. I now have the Hankooks on both 2015 Expy and 2016 150 crew. Not to happy with the wear. Like the tire but I am only going to get 35,000 to 40,000. Wish there was a tire like that that would get closer to 55,000 plus.

The factory Hankooks have 30K miles and are down to the wear indicators on all 4 tires. The missus seems to wear out her Yoko's on her Highlander prematurely also....

Did you have the Grabber AT2's? If so, how was the road noise?
