Explorer 5.0 Heater tubes on Truck Intake - Will it fit?

Evening all,

I have an '88 F150 5.0L with a GT40 intake from a '96 explorer.
I am absolutely in love with the heater tubes on this lower intake - shown below :

The actual photo (not the diagram) is close but not what I have - the tubes on mine are identical to the ones shown in the diagram.

I am planning a small refresh on the engine and am contemplating returning the truck intake, but I HATE the heater tube setup on it. Has anyone ever transferred the later tubes to the earlier truck intake?

Has anyone ever tried the mustang tubes? They look like they would be more difficult to service if and when the time came. Shown below:

Also, is the truck intake worth it over the truck intake? I'm leaning towards that simply for service part availability.

Yeah that should work.. you just have to chop off those big long factory heater hoses in the truck.

I was hoping so.

Always hated the way the hoses laid over the valve cover under the hood.

Would you pick the truck intake over the GT40?

If you're doing a MAF swap now or in the future the single TB is easier to work with.

Not considering a MAF swap -

31-255-5 Comp Cams
Type III 19# injectors
obligatory ignition stuff

- is all I've done and plan to do. I've thought about getting a set of headers and possibly a set of GT40 heads if time allows.

There isn't much difference performance wise between the GT40(explorer) and truck intake. As cast the GT40 lower is a little better but only because the ports on the truck intake narrow down where they meet the heads.. but that is pretty easy to fix. It's the opposite for the uppers... the truck upper flows better and has more throttlebody. So either intake should work well for you with the Explorer intake will looking a little more custom.

You will need a full exhaust system with headers to get more than just marginal gains from the engine upgrades.
