2003 Excursion

Hey guys just bought a used 2003 Excursion. Came with what I believe is a 4 inch lift. Its been raining here the past two day. Haven't gotten under the truck to see the what lift it has. Hope you guys can help me out here, first issue I have is my dash light isnt working. Anyone else ran into this issue? Second if it does have a 4inch lift, what shocks would you guys suggest? I'm sure those are up for replacement.

Good looking Ex. Welcome to the forum. I'd start with the fuse inspection and go from there. Shock-wise, many go with Ranchos or Bilstein.

Which dash light? Like the dash board all or just one? Diesel or gas? You could just have a bulb out in the instrument panel but dash light out is kind of vague to send you in the right direction..

Update, Checked all the fuses and they all check out good. Read a post saying maybe it could be the light switch. Removed and guess what? the second plug which allows me to dim the lights was unplugged. Dash light and AC unit light works now.

Last Sunday as i was driving it and just die on me. Notice my voltage was kind of low sitting around 12.6x. Had my battery and Alternator tested. Two different auto parts said the Alternator did not pass the test. Time to look for a new Alternator.

Need some advice, how can I tell if its a 6" lift or 4". My brother has a 2005 EX 2WD last week park the truck right next to each other and they were equal. Reason of knowing is to buy the right shock. Below is what i'm look at.

This thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...easurents.html will explain that to get an accurate suspension measurement you want to check the distance from you hub centers to the top of the wheel well arch. This method takes out any tire size variations.
Compare your measurements to the stock 4X4s in the thread to find your exact amount of lift over stock.

Not sure what part of SoCal you're at, but I know a decent place for alternators and starters in Azusa, CA. I got mine there for my V10 a few years back for about $130+core.

Edit: If they don't have your particular one in stock, they could also rebuild your existing one for less than a full replacement. It may take a few days, though.

Hey I'm in Orange County, I placed and order yesterday from DC Alternators https://www.dcpowerinc.com/ going with a 270 as I pan on adding a few things to it.

Thanks for the link, looks like the truck has a 27.5 on the back and 28 in the front.

So I got under the truck and took some picture don't like what I see in the rear.

I notice when I drive over 70 the truck tends to have a lot more sway motion. What type of lift kit am I looking at?

OK, assuming stock front at 23" and stock rear at 24" from the suspension mod thread it looks like you have about +5" up front and +3.5" on the rear.
From your pictures it shows a dropped shackle on the rear mount of the front springs but you don't show the front mounts for the front springs. If it has the dropped front mounts that can be a very good setup as it's using the lowered mounts to get the extra ride height instead of heavier springs and it will be easier to maintain proper alignment specs. It does look like you have the stock front springs from the 2 leaf negative arch design. The dual shock setup is aftermarket, make sure that any replacement shocks there are correctly valved for a dual setup or you will get a very harsh ride.
On the rear you have stock EX springs that are missing the traction bar (bottom front half only leaf) front rubber snubbers. Neither one of those stocked blocks look like the stock ones to me, they seem too narrow for the application, but maybe it's the picture or my old eyes. All of your rear lift is from the blocks. If you are going to be keeping this ride height you can get custom made one piece blocks to replace those stacked ones, that will be more stable. Adding a rear sway bar like the Hellwig will control a good bit of that body roll/sway you are now feeling, the new Hellwig bars come with nice adjustable end links to match various lifts and they give you 3 different adjustments on the bar for tuning the amount of anti-roll control.

Thanks for your reply. I will look into the Hwllwig bars, is their a lift section on this site? Can't seem to find it. What are some options to for the rear don't like the blocks stacked on blocks idea.

No lift forum or sub-forum here. We have many, many threads here in the EX forum though that deal with lifting these big wagon, mainly because they started out life sitting 2" lower than the SD pickups. Check out the Tech Folders at the top of the EX forum page, tons of suspension info there.
You have many options, new aftermarket lift springs from a few different vendors (check that other thread that was I linked to earlier, it has some owner reports with these) and/or some high quality lift blocks like from PMF (Precision Metal Fab). If axle wrap is an issue with the tall blocks you could also get new blocks that mate to long traction bars from OUO (One Up Offroad), nice stuff there, but not cheap.
Or you could look into the very popular ATS (you want to talk to Junior at ATS, a site sponsor) Modded C code rear replacement springs and maybe a 3.75" F-350 tapered block. I run a set of typical modded B codes with the F-350 blocks and 2 sections of the cut down traction bar for a 4.5" or so rear lift.
My rear spring pack mods.

Is that two blocks on one another or one larger one on top of the base plate above axle? That angle it was just hard for me to see. I would recommend calling Junior at ATS and explain what you have and what you want to accomplish I would be willing to bet he will hook you up right.
