Starter Relay clicking

Hey everyone,

I have a new starter relay and the battery is good and charged but when I turn the key the starter relay is clicking and won't turn over the engine. Any ideas as to the problem?

Sounds like a bad ground connection somewhere. Especially if you got a good battery and the solenoid clicks fast. You can check the starter connection by bumping the "s" terminal of the solenoid with 12v. Most likely it's your negative battery cable connection though. Try cleaning the battery terminal and negative cable.

Agree with gittinwidit...also, make sure the solenoid is grounded to the fenderwell properly....it needs a good, solid ground.

X3 on ck all your main elec connections. Both sides of the battery, + to starter solenoid, - to eng block.

Is this problem why you replaced the starter solenoid in the 1st place?

Are you sure the starter itself is OK?
RE the negative battery cable, see where it goes from the battery. If it goes to the block, then you need a smaller cable to run from the block to the cab.
If the negative battery cable runs to the fenderwell, then you need a large (thick) cable running from that fenderwell (hopefully from the same stud) to the block.
