Hood deflector

The one I got from Roy appears to be for a v8. We couldn't find the part number but measurement wise it appears to be for a v8.

I have a Champion radiator and the part of the deflector that fits around the radiator is to small. So, it appears I may have to modify it anyway.

Going to continue to look for a 6 cyl deflector but may take Dave's approach and cut the v8 one down to work in the 6 cylinder position.

I am not in a hurry so will take my time.

Thanks to all.

Dan

I have a champion radiator with the 6 cylinder deflector, and honestly I do not know where the deflector sits in relation to the radiator. I do know the hood closes OK and that is all I was worried about! The truck runs cool, no issues with air flow.

Hood deflector

Thanks Dave
It will be a while until my hood is on and functional so, depending on how the deflector sits in relation to the radiator, I may not have a problem.

I still hope to find a 6 cylinder deflector, but I am in no hurry.

I believe, just from a few rough mesurements, that the v8 deflector will hit the upper radiator hose... if I can't locate one by the time I am ready to put the hood on, I may attempt fabricating one from sheet metal, or it may be easier to just notch the v8 deflector around the hose...

But I would rather have one that is a factory piece.

As Firstrider suggested, I will spend some time in the boneyards here pretty soon...

One reason to change over to a six cylinder deflector is that the radiator can be moved forward to give more room for a modern power plant.
I looked for years for one. I had a flathead eight that went south after a flood. It was replaced with a 351W.
I moved the radiator forward into the six cyl position. Had to remove deflector because it would then hit the top of the radiator.
Now that I found a six cyl deflector it clears great. Will post some photo's later

The deflector fits tight to the front of the radiator, I don't see how it could interfere with hoses. I'd assume the short deflectors aside the radiator need to be different for a 6-cyl too, and they meet up to the hood-mounted deflector.

Please ignore the bugs!

Difference in six and eight radiator hood deflector.
Closest one the nose of hood is the six cylinder hood deflector

Here are the 6 and V8 air deflectors. I circled and highlighted the letter H on the 6 and the letter on the V8 deflectors. The lower photo is the 6 laying on top of the V8 to show the difference. It would be a job, for me at least, to make a 6 cylinder deflector out of a V8 one.

I wish this thread began two months ago!
I bought a used deflector not knowing there was a size difference. Mine has the 'R' so it is for a V8.

I need a deflector for a six now.

But that means I have one for an V8 that I won't use. Any of you guys needing one, send me a PM.
Tom
