^^^^ This is why you crank the engine after removing the bolts and fittings. The cam lobe should push the whole pump up out of the block and prevent it from breaking off on removal (or at least make it much less likely).

Wasn't there someone recently that posted a pic of their pump that had broken off in the block... lower portion of pump housing and plunger were still in the block when he pulled the pump?
If you just need another pump to get you by, I have one on the shelf left over from my efuel swap.
