Any way to avoid delivery charge?
Ladies and Gents,
I live in Norfolk, where they make the new F150s. I asked the dealer if I could order from him and pick it up at the factory to avoid the $900 delivery charge; his reply was that even if I picked it up there, I would still get charged. I was a bit suspiscious, he didn't sound convincing. Anybody have experience with this?
Regards,
Loren

The reason that everyone has to pay a delivery charge regardless of location is because Ford amoritizes (averages) the cost of shipping all trucks into each vehicle. E.G. It may cost $1700 per truck to get one to Washington state and it may cost only $100 to get it to Beach Ford in Va Beach, hence the average of $900 per truck. They don't want to penalize someone for living a great distance from an assembly plant.

Destination charges is only $795.00 for Ford vehicles. I live in Portsmouth and checked with my salesman to confirm this. I don't know which dealership you are dealing with, but Don Comer in Portsmouth gave me this quote. Maybe your dealership is adding something else in order to get this amount.
Hope this helps.

lmao....IMO we should have the option of picking up right from the factory!!!....lol...we could order through our respective dealers and pick up at KCY or NRF....just imagine how many of us would be there THE DAY THE THING IS BUILT!....Ford would have more room on their transport trucks and could ultimately ship out more!....I know most of us here would love the idea of NOT HAVING TO WAIT ANOTHER COTTON PICKIN MINUTE TO TAKE DELIVERY OF OUR NEW RIDES!!!!!......hey....a man can dream can't he!?....

RX 1 Liter is absolutely right: it's done this way so that the ultimate price we pay is fair to everyone. Imagine how much more customers in Hawaii and Alaska would have to pay if freight charges were based solely on distance from the plant. I know it seems unfair if you live right next to an assembly plant, but I don't think anyone else has come up with a fairer system.
