Roof Rack Ideas?

Hello everyone!

I just posted a welcome/introduction. Anyways, my wife & I recently picked up a 93 Econoline club wagon w/the 5.8. it has 37k miles on it, super stoked on it. It's going to be our surfwagon.

That being said, i'm exploring the roof rack situation. Thinking of a full basket rack, but don't know what to look for & what to avoid as I'm almost entirely ignorant on the subject. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I think if you're not planning on putting on heavy stuff (Camper Top, extra fuel canisters) or planning to do some serious 4x4 activities, a regular roof rack (one that mounts on the roof drip rails) should be just fine for carrying 2 boards.

Just my €0.02

Question is........how you find a '93 with only 37K on the clock???

What, only driven on Sundays to Church........

Agree that the gutter mount roof racks would work best, plus you can add additional racking to suet your needs.

Check your local Craigslist adds, I see used roof racks posted all the time from take-offs, a lot less than new ones.

+1 on checking CL, I found Yakima 1A mounts (with locks and keys) and bars (although usually too short for vans) typically around $100 for the set in my area. I think the 66" bars are around $70/set new.

Yeah I totally lucked out! It was owned by a city's water company & the city was super small & I guess was used to check a couple water meters. The mayor of the city (really sweet old man) actually sold it to us as my wife "sounded like a good person" over the phone haha!

Anyways yeah, I've been searching high and low on CL. I want a safari rack (full roof with metal mesh bottom) so we can lug firewood alongside our surfboards)

thus far the biggest problem I'm finding is miscellaneous racks w/o the means to mount or clamp said rack to the roof....but the search continues!

thanks for the pointers you guys rock!
