10 lug dana 4x4 front axle conversion to 8 lug
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Dec-01 AT 08:36 AM (EST)]I have the chance to scoop up a 91 F-450 4X4 cheap for parts...however the truck is 10 lug,, is it possible to convert the truck from the 10 lug to 8 lug so I could use the front axle on my F-250???

I know a lot of people up here in Montana who would die for those ten lug axles. LOL
yes you can change them, but the F-450 frame rails are narrower so you will have to reweld spring pads on them, and then swap in new parts from the spindle out, different rotor w/8 lugs, not sure about bearings, new backing plate for the smaller calipers, and it will depend on if the conversion company since all F-450 4x4's aftermarket are conversions, used the 30 spline ford outers or the HD 35 spline outers which will require changing the spindle, hubs, and outer stub axle or the purchasing of a Warn 35 spline kit to use the eight lug ford rotors. I havent been in to very many of thos, they are usually unique to the Forest service since it was a $10K conversion job but ill will see what other info i can find out. I stand to be corrected on some of this info.
Also if you want a strait axle eight lugs under your 3/4 ton i can give you a number of a guy in canada who i delt with for mine and several others. Good Luck
Hope this helps
