Flathead 255 V8 rebuild thread

Yeah, It s great to see the fresh machined parts at the machine shop. Even better if you don't look at the bill.
My engine fires right up and gets me around every day but, the draft tube smokes like a freight train. A bit of exaggeration but, it has a lot of blow by.
My carb and all external parts are rebuilt. I have a good set of EAB heads and Walt DuPont on Ford Barn fixed me up with an EAB cam. I'd love to find a good Merc crank and hopefully not too far away. Fingers crossed I've got a good builder. I've never had a head off so I have no idea what I'm starting with other than it runs pretty good now, has decent oil pressure and doesn't over heat.
So post up plenty of pics and assembly tips so I know what to expect.

Tommy and his crew at Goza machine finished the block this week and I picked it up today. Pics tomorrow after I get it unbagged and on the stand. Awesome guys to work with.
Rebuilt the USA made AC fuel pump tonight. I have been tumbling the parts in walnut shells all week and it looks better than new. Rebuild kit was from Then and Now automotive, USA made and ethanol resistant.

Thanks for the comments guys. Intake valves are in. Not sure which was worse, battling the adjustable lifters or getting the intake guide seals on and down into the bore. I don't think I have to worry about the lifter adjusters being loose! Some of them took everything I had! Great quality from reds headers.
I have not tried electrolysis. My new method is evaporust soak followed by a several hour tumbling in crushed walnut shells with just a little metal polish. Things come out like new.
Crank shaft gear is next!

Re use valves or new? Looks like you blended bowls. Any major cracks that needed repair?
You going to do the oil filter mod? Going to run a PCV? What distributor are you going to run?
Sorry if any of these questions have been asked. I'm planning my build and trying to decide how to proceed. I haven't even found a good machine shop with Flathead experience yet.

Great thread. Looking good.
I found a merc crank in northern Arizona last spring.
I was admiring the fellows nice old tractor with a 3 point blade. And the counter weight on the blade was a merc crank. I didnt have much hope in it being any good but it checked out and was standard. Cleaned up at 20 and 10 under. I couldnt believe it.

Started on the crank tonight, getting it ready to drop in. Was unsure of the crank gear install so experimented on the 8ba crank as a test with an old gear. Followed advice and heated it in oven to 350 and it slid right on, made sure it seated against journal with a 1" oak dowel. Next is the slinger followed by the spacer. Which way does the spacer go? Spiral on edge towards the journal or towards the pulley?
