Transmission Swap

Hi Folks... New on here.

I have a 2006 F-350 5.4 reg cab 4x4.... with some 5R110W transmission woes.
I have been informed that only "05 and "06 Gas are a direct bolt in...
A trans out of an E-350 van has been offered as a replacement, (I think same year?)... Someone stated, the output shaft may have to be changed to adapt to my transfer case... Do any of you know if this is correct??
Also.... can the shaft be switched by removing the "tail piece" rather than gutting the replacement trans in order to have it fit the "T" case??

Thanks for any info!

The trans is a direct swap EXCEPT that you have to totally tear it down to swap the output shaft.

Also, you better clarify that it came from an E-Series equipped with a gas engine as opposed to diesel (different bellhousing bolt patterns). Although on the 6.0L diesel applications versus the 5.4L/6.8L gas engines, the bellhousing bolt patterns may appear similar, I don't want to say they are IDENTICAL. Correct me if I'm wrong Mark?

And yes, you would need to completely disassemble the 2WD donor transmission to transfer the output shaft and extension housing to enable it to bolt up. With that much work into disassembling two transmissions, you are likely better off rebuilding your existing unit.

If the truck is in good shape and you plan on keeping it, why not just have the current transmission rebuilt? Provided thats whats needed.

You're wrong.

There was only one 5R110 case. The 6.0L and 6.4L (I don't know the 6.7L) have the modular bolt pattern.

Trans swap

The situation was a flashing tow/haul..."snow plowing truck" My scanner read p0731 solenoid A performance/stuck... this created a code p7400 coast clutch performance/pressure... shutting the vehicle off and restarting removed the flashing tow/haul for anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour, before it came on again.... The trans functioned normally until the light flashed..when flashing it was abrupt between forward and reverse, and I did think it missed a gear on the highway once or twice..... but today while plowing, I was trying record the data provided with the scanner... and I did get some of the data stored... after numerous restarts... there was no flashing for some time, actually thinking it had gone away... the was a howl for a few moments and minutes later.. I was not moving... Upon getting towed to my shop, the fluid was drained and pan pulled.... Clean fluid, and no shrapnel???... I have the "A" solenoid out and on the bench...passed ohm test, applied voltage and the plunger does not appear to move...it clicks like it is, but no movement, the outboard portion of the plunger is moving on it's own..like it is not connected to the main portion.... pulling the other "A" solenoid later to compare.... as a note when trans stopped driving..it sent a code to scanner for solenoid "B"...??? I have to determine solenoids are sound and functioning correctly... but I am now thinking a possible wiring issue?? Or is it common for the 5R110W...to quit without shrapnel in the pan?? I have been dealing with the flashing tow/haul for a few days to a week, and have been looking for a replacement trans, (worst case scenario).. thus the original post above re: the E series...
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
