OEM Alcoas and Aftermarket Alcoa wheels. The aftermarket wheels are not clear coated just polished and I also used Flitz polish.

Nice pictures! And yes, there is no clear coat on these rims. I have read that they are good strong rims so i think they should do just fine.......we replaced about 1,000 parts restoring this truck so it's not an OEM stock truck anymore hahaha.

I'm having a wood pellet stove installed in my basement today and once that is in i can heat it and i'll get to polishing the rims up. The Flitz polishing kit should be here tomorrow.

Anyone ever use CLR to clean up the rims at all? i was thinking of doing a CLR presoak in garbage can prior to using the Flitz pre-clean. Then polishing them up with the buffing wheel

Where did you get the Flitz polishing kit?

CLR works well on clearing out my faucets and shower heads

Scotchbrite pads on my bike rims worked well

I ordered it online and 2 day air was only $20 so it'll be here tomorrow. I plan to finish it off with some billet polish if it needs it.

Thanks Keith, i'm hoping it lossens up some of the gunk on it thus making it easier for the buff wheel to whisk it away

I don't CC after polished. looks great and I don't have to worry about it flaking off. Use a wheel buffer once in a while to maintain the look.

Yeah the thread Red posted talked about how forged aluminum didn't "need" the CC. I got the buffing ball and after this initial clean, I figure once every 6 months will be fine. It's definitely not a show truck!!

I would be more worried about salt pitting the rims without the clear coat. Since you're going to be driving it in either MA or PA, I would think you'll see salt a fair amount. Unless you park it for the winter that is.

Problem is, there isn't a great clear coat solution. Ask 10 people get 10 diff experiences. It most say they wanna take it off after adding it.

I agree that the salt will get after it but I think I'm going to try the straight polish and if I see them taking a beating I'll start a CC project.

Good plan. Don't fix it if it's not broke.

I should have mentioned that I took the rims to a truck wash place and had them acid washed before I started polishing. They were as chalked out flat gray as aluminum gets.
