Does anyone have any information or pictures on how to press out the bushings on tubular control arms?

 

I've burned out the rubber and then used an air hammer to the steel shells to crush them. Not necessarily on the application you mention but on a couple different vehicles.

 

finally got them out, used a recip saw to cut a line in the metal sleeve, then heated it up with a torch. hammered it out with a chisel... now on to the upper control arms...

 

Why are you having to replace all this? Do you have that many miles on the front end already?

 

Nope, wanted to get rid of the strut Rods and have the cleaner look. I tore apart the front clip anyway to start aligning new sheet metal, so I thought what the heck. Now was as good a time as any... and I wanna go ride tech coilovers on the front as well...

Yeah i I read that post about 15 times trying to get the bushings out lol
you have any pics of doing the uppers?

 

nope... I can't remember but I probably just drove them out with the cross arm... put a nut on one end to hammer on... maybe someone will have the method.

since you don't have a finish to deal with... you might just burn them out...

I AM SO PISSED!!! long story short, went and bought a harbor freight press, got a 20 ton for $165. got it all together and excited to press out the rod on the upper control arms, put kids to bed, head to the garage. start pressing out the rod, and i spreading the control arm apart to where it dis-figures the ball joint opening. now i can't even get the ball joint to screw in because the control arm is so screwed up. did that on both of them. One step forward, 9 steps back!!!!!

 

Sorry to hear you're having grief. I removed my rubber ones before fitting, using a torch and cutting the inner, as previously mentioned. I did this before powder coating and then refitting polybushes. As an aside, would you be kind enough to give me the manufacturer and part number of that socket for the balljoints please? I'm in the UK, and have bought spare balljoints, but feel I need one of those sockets! Thanks!
