it might NOT be the truck or the driver.
today's fuel is getting less gas.. and I am not talking about the 10 percent ethanol.
I have learned other stuff is going into gasoline and its not called out anywhere.
benzine's and like stuff.
its 87. but NOT gasoline with 10 percent ethanol. just and fyi.
some brands are bad at this..
my motorcycle gets 40 to 44 mpg and some brands it gets 32 riding the same way and on the same roads...
If I use Sheetz I get 29 on the bike. bike runs fine.. NO mileage, no more sheetz.
my motorcycle is Fuel Injected.

For a comparison, my '13 CCLB FX4 3.73 with 800 lbs of ballast in the bed averaged 13.7 on the last tank and that's primarily commuting to and from town 30 miles each way at 70mph then about 15-20 miles a day of in town driving. I also let it idle about 5 minutes before going to work and then before going home because it's been so dang cold here lately. In warmer weather I get around 14.5 for the same commute. I live at 5,600ft elevation and town is about 5,200ft

I have seen in a number of places that flatbeds are not aerodynamic and that they are heavy and that kills all mileage..Seems to be the easy way to explain things..So I did some looking up, my flatbed from the manufacturer says it's 1050lb, add two protect boxes..1170lb total weight. According to Ford body builders for 2014 the standard fleetside bed is around 445 as I read it..Kinda confusing reading those manuals..So that means I'm 730lbs heavier than normal, add maybe another 200 for chains, shackles, jumper cables, axe, shovel, and a few other things.. I'm max 900 over stock body weight.. the best I have gotten in almost all freeway only driving was 13.1 and my average when driving really easy is 11.4 I'm my normal commute which is 17 miles to and from work which is very close to what raindesert drives and gets 12.4.. I'm not 100% that it's all the flatbed..But if that's the difference from his pickup with his standard work tools and mine.. that's not bad. I do normally gas up at Costco which is a top tier gas atation, so I could probably try gassing up somewhere else that costs a bit more and see what happens.

I reset my MPG average in my truck yesterday while pulling my backhoe and was getting 8.5 mpg. The tractor weighs 7500 pounds full of fuel, trailer about 2500 pounds. Pulls it with no problems. Some say a properly equiped F150 ecoboost would do the job. It will pull it just as good, stopping a load that big is where the Super Duty beats the F150. I have both trucks.

My '65 Impala is a 396 car(you probably know, but they changed big blocks mid year) Mine has the 3.31 gears and factory was a powerglide. I would get about 15 highway stock, but after a few upgrades (ignition, intake, exhaust, modern cam profiles, roller lifters and rockers, etc.) plus the addition of an overdrive transmission it would get 21 on the highway if I kept my foot out of it and ran better than stock. It was my daily driver from '95 until I bought my first new Superduty in '01. I'm currently in process of doing a full frame-off resto job on it. I'm undecided on going back with the 396 or using the 540 that I have sitting around waiting to be assembled.

as first year for the 396... early production had issues so only the Corvette got the 396 on first build. by January 1965 other models got it.
as I worked for a Chevy dealer at the time.
I do wish I had my 65 back.. stolen . never found.
I guess I missed my point..
a 3,500 pound car getting 12...
and a 7,000 pound block of steel ( With Flat Nose) getting 15 to 17...
87 for truck and 100 plus for car with leaded.
SORRY, return to BAD GAS MILEAGE.
