finally found my source of miss fire
I have 300,000 miles on one of my V10 vans and for 100,000 miles I have had a miss in the engine. 3 sets of boots, coil changes when they were bad and a lot of frustration with a partial miss under heavy load occasionally. Sometimes it would be worse than others. I recently changed the coils and plugs and boots all at once and within a day I had one cylinder miss just like it used to. I got out of the van and noticed that one of the clips that holds the coil pack plug on the coil had a damaged clip, I tried to move it and it moved in about 1/4 of an inch, no more miss, I checked it again the next day when it missed a lot and sure enough the plug had backed off from fully on the coil. Some have replaced their plug in connector, but I just got some silicone and put a line of it across the coil and plug where they join and I have not had a miss since. If you have any damaged clips they can easily back off and cause miss. Silicone is easily peeled off when plug changes come along. Hope it helps someone Andrew.
