Hi Everyone-
I was in the process of washing and waxing my 2014 F350XL last week in preparation for another long New Hampshire winter when I noticed a section of paint about 3/8" in diameter has flaked away from the lower corner of the window opening on the rear passenger side door just above the weather strip. Very noticeable on a black truck. This should not be happening to a truck that is not even three years old with only 35,000 miles. I have done a bit of research on this and this seems to be a common problem on Super Duties and Expeditions. I had this same problem on my 2002 F350 at multiple spots at the window corners and was very disappointed to see it starting all over again on my new truck. I have voiced my displeasure to my Ford dealer and have an appointment this Tuesday to have them look at it. I'm hoping for a positive outcome at the local level and hope I don't have to get Crystal involved.


See the attached photos and let me know what you think. Have any of you had this problem on your trucks? If so what was done to correct the problem and did Ford take care of it?


I have also been having an excessive right front brake drag issue and recently found out there are two TSB's on this issue. I'll create another post on that.

I have seen at least 6 other newer Super Duty crew cabs in my local area with paint coming off in the window corner areas. I'm going to continue my survey over the weekend. These trucks cost way too much money for stuff like this to happen when still so new.

 

Actually I have sen this on some of the newer Ford we have at work and I have noticed this on some of the older Fords as well my 2008 F240 has this on 3 of 4 doors. Not sure why that occurs in those little corners but I dont think it is that uncommon unfortunately

 

I have it on both of my doors as well.

 

So, many of these Super Duties have this problem newer and older. What have people done about the problem? Have you fixed it yourself? Shouldn't have to, Ford should be manning up and taking care of a known problem relating to either their paint prep process or painting. It may even be caused by the weather strip float while driving that causes rubbing? Either way I assume all of you work hard for your well earned money. Ford does not give these trucks away and this should not be happening to a truck that is less than three years old that has been cared for in every way. Just remember, the problem only gets worse with time, mileage and age not better!

 

I haven't done anything with mine. I have thought about it, but then always something bigger comes up. Plus 17 y/o truck with the past 8 years in the rust belt, has bigger fish to fry. I do agree that it's a issue that should be addressed.

 

That is what happened with my 2002 F350, something always of more importance came up and because of that I ended up with a corroding mess on at least 6 different window corner areas. I don't remember the mileage or how old the truck was but I know it was not at less than 3 years and it had wayyyyy more than 35,000 miles. I'll have to look at my old record book for the truck and see if I noted it.

 

I had it happen on my Black '08' truck just went and got some black brush on paint from Wally World. The paint code is on the door sticker just match the code to the bottle in the store. Touched up occasionally never was that big a deal to me any ways. If it happens on the '16' I'll do the same thing.

 

Yea.....I know, it must be me? What a fool thinking that after paying 34,000 clams I actually though I would have paint that would stay on the truck! I guess that's only on the 54,000 dollar truck. Maybe I'll order a truck that is just primered then I won't have to worry about the paint falling off of it!

 

Wait till someone dings/ biffs your truck then you'll have something to really be upset about.

If your really worried about take it back to the dealer you have a warranty on your 34K truck.

 

Scraprat, take a look at the photos of the window corners on my 2002 F350. Not really good close ups but that doesn't matter as you can see the problem areas from a mile away. Remember paint problems don't fix themselves. I don't want my new truck to look like the 2002. It's 12 years later, I really would have thought the problem would have been corrected by now. Have an appointment with my dealer Tuesday for this and a brake related Ford TSB item.

 

Put touch up paint on it. The dealer won't do anything.

 

I'll admit mine where not that bad but touch up paint does help.

 

I wonder what Crystal from Ford Customer Service thinks of this? Why the same paint problem exists on a 2002 and still on a newer 2014? I would have though Ford would have squared the problem away years ago. Maybe the aluminum on the 2017 and larger window bottom radius will do the trick?

 

Brought my truck into the Ford dealer where I bought my truck and they took pictures of the paint defect and they sent them to Ford Engineering/Warranty and Ford immediately approved a warranty paint fix of the door paint. As I mentioned above, many Super Duties have this problem and I'm just glad Ford realizes this and is standing behind their product. The paint is scheduled to be fixed at their body shop next week. I'll keep all of you posted.
