Engine Install/Replace 1977 F250

Guys,

Truck is a 4x4 with a 400M in it and a NP435. I found a replacement engine that I am getting rebuilt (currently at the machine shop). I am planning on having someone do the engine swap for me, as I am not sure If I am up to doing this by myself. Couple questions:

1. How long shoud it take to swap out a complete engine? The new one will be complete, but need alternator, PS pump etc swapped... I know labor rates vary, just wondering what a complete remove and replace should take in terms of time for a professional mechanic.

2. I will count on replacing the clutch with the new engine... Any other things I should consider doing while the engine is out?

Thanks for all the help.

Joel

Is he charging book time or actual time?

I would think actual time is about 10hrs provided no hangups.

I would have the flywheel resurfaced or provide a new one.

Might be a good time to throw a new starter in.

Thanks for the estimated time. I haven't confirmed with the mechanic yet, but I assume book time. I have another flywheel. I dropped it off with the engine, as they needed it to balance it. I will have them re-surface. Appreciate the assistance.

I could do it in 8 hours if I humped it.......I'm 57 years old so don't move like I used to. I was a professional diesel mechanic for over 25 years. These trucks are so simple to work on.
