Interest in OEM Nav/Sync for 05-07 trucks
It was suggested I post this here too...
I have an interest in installing the factory nav and sync in my new-to-me 06 Superduty as the factory fit, finish, and integration components just seem to work smoother and better.
4dTech used to make a module that allowed the use of the later equipment in the earlier trucks that didn't have the newer CAN Bus.
In my discussions with them they have said they are willing to make another small run of the devices if I can get 5 people.
As I understand it their device is different than other lockpick devices because it acts at the CAN Bus master that the pre-08 trucks are missing.
Because of this, retrofitting other components that also use that bus might also be possible (memory seats, dual zone AC maybe). Dont count on this as testing would be needed.
If I can get a total of 5 pre-paid (to them not me) they will do a small run. at 5 units they say it will be about $600 each ($500 if 10+).
Here is the pricing for the complete kits:

If I can get 10+ people he will take $100 off the fill kit prices.
Please refrain from the "why don't you just get an aftermarket radio cause it's cheaper" posts.
You can also PM me. I am just trying to find out if there is a possibility of enough people.

do you know why the navigation is connected to can bus?
I put a navigation in my 2005 f250 from 08 Explorer , everything work but no navigate . I got can bus error codes bcoz it is not getting can bus signal , I think.
Is any way to get signal from data link connector pin6 and pin 14???? thanks

You have to tap into the proper canbus and you need the matching GPS module for the radio. You have to compare the wiring harness and can buses to make sure they are compatible. I think the 08+ superduties added a bus that you need the correct module for... not sure what they did in the explorer.

The NAV units from the 2008 model year are plug-and-play in the 2007 trucks.
They may work for the 2005-2006 trucks as well.
The 2008 NAV units still had both analog and CAN-Bus inputs for vehicle speed and button backlighting. Most any audio shop that can bench-program Ford units can properly select the input(s) as necessary.
2009+ are CAN-Bus only, and can only be used in 2009+ vehicles.
Also, the steering wheel controls for the SYNC don't have equivalent keys on the '05-'07 steering wheels. In order to get them, you have to replace the entire steering column; the '08+ wheels are not backwards compatible. (Someone here managed to get a conversion built and functional, but it was a WHOLE LOT of work that might not be feasible for others.) The volume up/down, tuning up/down are there, but the voice controls are not. This may or may not be an issue.
(I wound up going the aftermarket route, but investigated this closely. Ten years later the factory NAV units are STILL too expensive.)
