Every time I watch this show (or many others) I have to wonder how much cash gets placed on the table before the owner gets to drive the car home. This build had to be BIG $$$$.
I used to wonder the same thing until I had the opportunity to do some custom work for a guy that could afford what he wanted to do! I asked him at what point is it just to much, he said it's all proportionable to worth. He said look at it like this a family making $80k a year might spend $20k on a new car. That's 25% of their yearly income. So he said let's say I generate over $500k a year than for him $125k for a car is the same as the $20k to someone else.
Made good sense but still is way out of most of our comprehension. Then he mentioned that the build I worked on for him was less then 5% of his income
As far as the door lengthening question goes, I will be adding 4-6" to my son's F1 and I will be wheeling up a new door skin to avoid any welds down the door skin. In the end I feel it is less work then cutting, welding, planishing and having the possibility of having a blemish in the finish paint when the truck is in the hot sun and the weld area expands differently than the parent metal around it.
