Rear axle options for a 65 F100 4x

I've got a 5 lug high pinon D44 disk front axle I'm going to swap into my 65. It's got 4:11 gears and I need to come up with a plan for the rear axle as mine is a factory 9" with 3:54 gears. I assume a later model 9" should bolt right in and would probably have bigger brakes. I need to stay 5 lug to match the front but have heard there is a D60.2 axle out there that has five lug pattern. With the 4:11 gears I'll likely go to a 33 or 35 in tire so maybe a D60 rear is a good idea. Any thoughts on how to come up with a 5 lug 60 or weather it's worth it. I'm guessing a later 4:11 9" would be a cheaper option and would probably have stronger shafts then my 65 with 28 splines.

You might have to move the spring perches on a later 9 inch rear end as the frames started getting wider when you move into the 73 to 79 range if I remember correctly. I have a Dana 60.2 and I quite like them however some people pointed out the parts are getting a bit harder to find for them as it is not a full floating rear end. The gearsets should be the same as a three-quarter ton diff but the axles will not be.

The Dana 60.3 (1966/69 F100) uses the same R&P's (C6TZ-4209-E/C6TZ-4209-F) as the 1966/85 Dana 60 (F250).

The Dana 60.2 (1963/66 F100) uses unique R&P's (C3TZ-4209-AH/C5TZ-4209-G). Both of these Dana's were available with a 3.54 or 4.10 ratio.

1953/67 F100's have 11" x 1 3/4" rear brakes. 1968/79 F100's have 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes as do 1975/96 F150's. 1980/83 F100's could have 10" x 2 1/2" or 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes.

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle, some have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle.

1965/72 F100: The width between the inner frame rails behind the cab is 33 1/2."

Beginning in 1973, the F100's width between the inner frame rails behind the cab is 37 1/2" as is 1975 and later F150's.

See post #2 again, I edited in the rear frame widths.

On that 60.2 what are the odd ball parts that are hard to find? I'm looking at a good running 60.2 from a 65 forest service truck and was wondering if the seals are an issue or just ring and pinion and bearings.

ALL the internal parts are hard to find except the axle bearing and seal.

These two parts are the same: 9 inch, Dana 44/60.2/60.3 .. except 1968/69 Dana 60.3 that uses a different seal.

The Dana 44/60.2/60.3 all have Limited Slip. 9 inch wasn't available with Limited Slip until 1968.

What is the rear axle ratio of this Dana 60.2? If it's 3.54-1, where will you find a 4.10-1 R&P to match the 4.11-1 front driving axle?

Personally, I would shy away from one of these Dana rear axles, due to the scarcity of parts.

It's a 4:10 with a limited slip. If it's in sound condition it would be a direct bolt in match for the front. But I would probably want to put a new set of seals on the axles and pinion. With the odd ball parts I was wondering if the pinion seal was hard to come by?

Invalid ID number, the 2nd digit must be a number.

If it's: C6TA-AZ = 1966/69 F100 ~ Dana 60.3 - 4.10-1 (R&P: C6TZ-4209-F) - Limited Slip.

Same C6TZ-4676-B Pinion Seal as Dana 60.2 .. see post #10.

As near as I can tell this axle is a D60.3 from 1966. Can anyone confirm that from the ring gear info below? The ring gear has some pits in it so if I do use this I'll probably want to replace it. If it is a 60.3 The ring gear should be easy to find from what ND posted above.

Here are some numbers off the differential. It looks like a power lock to me?
