front main oil leak

hello gents, been a while.

I came in from my morning run and noticed that I had a bunch of drips under my truck. After further inspection it was noticed that my entire from of the motor has a layer of oil covering it, including the hood section above the fan. Obviously something is leaking, and the fan is making a mess of it. I looked with high hopes that maybe it was the oil cooler, but ofcoarse I never get the easy fixes. After doing some research, it sounds like the front main crankshaft seal is a common culprit. I don't know of anything else that it could be up there, and ofcoarse now it doesn't want to leak while idling at almost regular oil temp in the drive way. Seems like a little bit of work, but nothing major. I just want to confirm and rule out any other possibilities. Also, it seems that I need to get a fancy tool to install the 25$ seal. Is there a oil pump in there as well? is there another seal in there that I can replace while I'm in there? Thanks for the advice, I did a search, but only a hand full of threads applied, and they weren't too informative on the repair, plus they were quite old, so maybe the community is more knowledgeable now. Thanks for the assistance and feel free to give any advice to help the repair go smoother. Thanks.

I had that problem and found a tensioner pulley had failed, the belt came off and got sucked in behind the harmonic balancer, taking out the front seal. My mechanic had it fixed in 2 hours with all new tensioners and pulleys. Hopefully yours is just that front seal.

well, I think the pump, pump seal is like 80, plus the front main seal, with is 25... I might as well do it all while i'm there... plus I"m not 100% sure which seal is it that failed yet, I"m just assuming it the main seal.

Kind of iffy that I have correctly diagnosed the issue. Anything else that could be culprit on the front of motor?

just an update... I finally got around to digging in a little deeper. Ended up being a belt rib split and wound up in the steering pump pulley causing shaft seal to crap out and leak fluid. I guess that initially when I saw the fluid on the ground and it was black like oil, it just ran down the front of the hot motor and picked up dirt and grime and made it look like oil. Any who, got the belt replaced, and new pump installed, and all is good to go. FYI fan clutch size is 47mm.. I had a hard time finding the exact size to order for air hammer, and took a gamble and it ended up being perfect.
