F150 Prerunner Suspension Work?

Would this F150 D44 prerunner steering bolt into place on a F250 with a D50? If not, what is different about F250 steering compared to F150 steering?

Unfortunately, no. The mounting locations are different than an f150 and an f250/350. The d50 has a equal length beams believe it or not, and the f150/d44hd is enequal of various degrees. If you had a 2wd f250/350 with the idi it would bolt in because the f150's beams are the same 2wd/4wd

Ah ok. Yeah I forgot the beams were not equal on the D44. Anything I have read about this type of setup, is that it really helps with bump steer. It would help a lot with driveability of the D50 ttb. The pic I posted isn't of Autofab's setup but they live around the corner from me. Their kit is freakin expensive but I might go look at it and see how hard it would be to do a setup like that. The steering and updating everything with polyurethane bushings would help a lot without having to swap to a D60.

I've been meaning to go down there and see John, it's been a while since I built a prerunner (rolled my '81 f150) But looking into a 2wd f250/350 for a nice 70 mph dirt cruiser again. Or an M715. Those things are b'dass.

I believe there was a 97? f250 4 door short bed that had a d50 extended and coilover'd, but I would imagine it would be pretty expensive.

You can probably get away with going to Autofab and asking to extend/move the d44 mounts to a d50 location, but I'm not sure how the d44 would cycle as it has to deal with the driveshaft. Someone on Dezert Rangers? tried, but failed with an equal-length d44. Kept puking driveshafts.

IMO, the d60 is worth it for these trucks and not worth messing with the d44 stuff. By the tine you are all said and done getting the d50 back to stock with bushings and steering, a D60 swap wouldn't cost too much more. A 2005+ d60 almost bolts in with the addition of coil buckets and radius arm mounts. The pumpkin sits nice and out of the way of the crossmember with the truck at full compression/no springs. I seen't it on the Pirate site. Cool builds.

I know the D60 is the popular mod. That probably would be the way to go in the long run. Just kind of looking what is out there and weighing my options.

Ttb drop brackets are the same for a dana 44hd and and a dana 50 in an f250/ pre 86 f350. I'm guessing those two have similar beams lengths.

Great guess, but wrong. the d44 HD has much less articulation and is more offset than the d50. d50 is equal length and the d44 HD is VERY unequal. helps with bump steer and cornering. though if you were hauling heavy why would you need to go that fast in the first place?

just because the bracketry is the same, doesn't mean its5not drilled for two different setups.

D60 is the way to do it, or talk to John at Autofab and see what his team can do with a d50.

After a bit of research, a half ton 44 has longer beams than a 3/4 ton 44hd/50. The brackets are drilled the same for the 3/4 tons regardless of 44hd/50, as the early f350s that came with 50 ttb front ends.
