Tailpipe resonator on 2008 important?

Hey guys,
My 2008 CCLB 4x4 V-10 has an extra resonator right behind the rear axle that is falling apart. I am just going to buy a replacement OEM fitment Walker tailpipe unit and was wondering if the stock resonator makes any noticeable noise difference. I do remember reading a thread a while back of someones who came apart on the inside and choked the truck down pretty bad. Any major issue removing it?

That was likely my post on my 2010. It plugged up badly on the mass turnpike while doing 70 up hill pulling my 10,500 lbs toy hauler. I've only put about 4000 miles on the truck since i just pulled out the fiberglass and welded it all back on. The only change I've noted is the BUZZ i would get at 3200rpm with a certain load on the motor is now GONE. it made this buzz since day one but dealer, said it was normal...

Thanks, yes that's the post I was talking about. I wouldn't think it would be a huge deal to remove it, just wanted to make sure it would stay quiet while towing. Mine let go of the tailpipe and I fixed it once by welding. The replacement from walker is only about 49 bucks, and a new muffler and tailpipe from Ford is 650..... think I'll try the aftermarket.

Be warned, that replacement is probably just galvanized steel and won't last long. The major output from a catalytic converter is water vapor. Wreaks havoc on plain steel.

The replacement from Ford is probably stainless and that's why it's so expensive.

Doesn't stop you from getting a stainless tailpipe aftermarket, though

I surfed Craigslist for a month or so looking for someone that upgraded and was selling their stock exhaust but had no luck finding Ford units a lot of bowtie exhaust...

Thanks for the replies. Even if it's not stainless, 50 bucks isn't too bad to replace even if it's every 2 years.
And I have had no luck on craigs either.
