What do you think I would need?

Ok...so I had it in my head that all I would need would be a F350 11,400 GVWR SRW truck to tow the Arctic Fox 35-5Z 5th wheel.

Here are the ratings for the truck:
2017 F350 CC SRW 11.5 GCWR 3.55 gearing
Payload (175.9"wb) 4400 lbs.
5th wheel/gooseneck towing 20,600 lbs.
Max GCWR of 28,700 lbs.

5th wheel numbers:
2016 Arctic Fox 35-5Z
Dry Axle Weight (approx. Lbs.): 10418
Dry Hitch Weight (approx. Lbs.): 2373
Net Carrying Capacity: 3509
Gross Dry Weight – Lbs.: 12791
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) – Lbs.: 16300
Exterior Length (approx. w / hitch): 38’11”
Exterior Height (approx.): 13’4″
Exterior Width (approx.): 8’6″
Tire Size: ST235/85R16
Load Range: G

I have no idea where the tanks are located on the trailer as of yet but usually would not be towing with much water at all.

In my head the numbers show that I should have no issues at all towing this trailer with a SRW F350. I do know that dry hitch weight is usually low so possibly add another 500 lbs. to that number for a more true pin weight. We are really light packers for camping. The front of this 5th wheel has a cargo area that if loaded would of course add more weight to the payload.

Am I correct in thinking this shouldn't be an issue or am I missing something?

Some people are telling me that the 5th wheel is way too heavy for this truck and that I should be getting a DRW.

Thanks everyone!

That trailer is easily within the F350 SRW's capacity for 2017.

Prince, your Fox is about the same as my Montana, you're 300 pounds heavier on max gross, I'm 16K. I did the math and I think the F350 SRW is plenty. I pull mine now with a 2012 F250. Over the limit currently I admit, thus I'm buying the new truck. But the point is the 2012 F250 handled it and the 2017 SRW 350 beats my current truck's specs by a mile. So my two cents is you'l have it made in the shade with lemonade!

It's easy to find experiences of owners who pull very heavy trailers of all types. My trailer is regularly 19,000 lbs plus and I've pulled thousands of miles at sea level and above 10,000 feet. Pulling a trailer like you've spec'd is well within the trucks capabilities since the 6.7L was introduced. It's comfortable and confident at all speeds. There is no need for a dually at the weights you've mentioned.

Thanks everyone that is what I was thinking as well and besides a little more stability in the wind and cornering, I cannot see the need for the DRW. I am someone that wouldn't have anything in the bed of the truck while towing and I would rather stack some wood on a grate in back of the 5th wheel behind the rear axle. As far as stability cornering I know I can solve a lot of that with air bags or a sway bar.

Just make sure you rotate your tires regularly. That heavy trailer nose is hell on a set of tires.

My only concern, if you are towing that much weight you would want the 6.7L diesel. The payload listed looks to be the gasser payload.

I always rotate my tires when they are due and keep them inflated to the proper psi for even wear.
