1995 Powerstroke Clutch Noise
Hi, this is obviously my first post on the forum. My name is TJ and I drive a 1995 powerstroke. It is a 4x4 with a manual transmission. 280k miles. I acquired the truck recently but the truck was very well kept on service by the previous owner. I have been daily driving the truck and on the way to work the other day I started getting a weird noise that sounds like its coming from the transmission. It sounds almost like static coming from the radio. The noise is intermittent and only when the clutch is fully engaged. Doesn't matter what gear. It seems like it only makes the noise when the transmission is cold but I'm not positive. It almost feels like the truck has a bit of resistance or something when its making the noise but that could just be me. I have done a lot of searching and some people say it could be the throw out bearing, pilot bearing, or the flywheel if I still have the factory dmfw. Will it be ok to drive for now? or should I park the truck until I get it fixed? Any help would be appreciated. And if you know the guesstimated cost of how much it will be to replaced said part would also be very helpful. Thanks -TJ

Do you have service records from the PO, or a way to contact them? Would be good to know if it's the original flywheel and/or clutch (280,000 on the original clutch would be... remarkable).
Do you hear an extra little clatter or "clack" sound when you shut down the engine?
Slide under and remove the inspection cover and see if you can move the flywheel by hand. I forget the exact threshold, but if it's more than just a wee bit of movement, the dual mass is about to let go. Also watch carefully for any bits of spring, bearing, etc. falling out when you remove the cover.
Oh, and welcome to FTE!
