White smoke on regen. Cycle

Hello brothers I'm new on the forum also new to the diesel world I just bought a 6.4 250 year is 08 with 124000 miles on it I got in my truck this morning and noticed when my exhaust cleaning system Notification came up white smoke was barreling out of my tailpipe only when I accelerate it it did it about three times each time accelerating from a stop light . Any ideas on what this could be anything will be appreciated. Is this normal bought the truck about two months ago and haven't noticed it I don't know if it does it every time or I just noticed it this time thanks again

My work truck does the same thing and also gets like a lighter fluid type smell from it as well. I'd say it's normal 207k on the clock and no issue so far

has to do with the colder temps. As long as your coolant level in the degas remains constant. Then the colder temps is all there is.

Tip: with a 6.4 weekly fluid checks will pay dividends along with OEM only oil and fuel filters.

I'm in FL so I'm not sure about being cooler. Maybe in my case it's hurricane related lol.

Almost the same issue

Thank god I found someone with the same issue. Mine however does not happen on regen, it just seems to happen randomly after 30 minutes...only from a stop...and I'm also in Florida. Keeping up with this thread to see what happens.

My 2010 6.4 smokes too, I need help!!

I have a 2010 that I have owned since late 2011, I bought it with 9000 miles. I have only allowed the local ford dealers work on my truck. When my truck had about 50,000 miles it started smoking, think white smoke with a blue tint. The dealer replaced the EGR cooler and weeks later the radiator (they said it was cracked). All was good until I reached 96,000 miles and the smoke started again, I went back to my dealer and they said that I had a turbo to fail and it took most of Jan. 2016 to fix (replaced both turbos). I picked up my truck at the end of the month and with in days I was smoking again, back to the dealer and I was told that they could not get the truck to smoke for them, after raising cane they kept the truck and the service manger drove it almost the entire month of Feb. 2016. They called me and said that it smoked for him and that I had a bad EGR cooler again and that it would not smoke again. I drove my truck for 2 days and once again it smoked like a train, back to the dealer and the had my truck for 2 weeks when i was told that I needed a short block because my number 8 cylinder wall was cracked. On Mar. 28 I got my truck back and after driving only a couple miles again my truck smoked. I drove back to the dealer who asked me to drive the truck for about a 1000 miles to see if the smoke continued. I think they were trying to get me pass the 100,000 mile mark but the truck only smoke a couple of times since that day but no pattern so I drove the truck and lived with sporadic smoking, jump forward to Dec. 2016 and here comes the smoke and lots of it. I took my truck to another dealer in town and they had it for a week when they told me that they need to do a manual regen and that I had dirty clogged up sensors and that the manual regen (a $500 bill) would fix the problem, after 120 miles my truck started smoking again and back to the shop where it has been for 2 weeks. Help

I had thought about that but several things have played into me not getting rid of the truck at this time. First I just bought an Infinti QX50 just before the truck started smoking again, not wanting two car payments right now. Second I bought an extended ford warranty years ago and still have 14,000 miles and 2 years left before the warranty expires so just looking for some one who might have the same problem that was corrected so that I get my truck back. Your advice is something that I have thought a lot about.

It is hot and humid where I live. Yes, it is normal for the white smoke and strong odor during the regeneration on occasion. It should not do that every time, but occasionally is normal. It really scared me the first time it did on mine. The time to regen is never standard either. Sometimes it is only a minute and I have had it take as long as 20 minutes. Ford recommends not to turn off the engine and keep driving during a regen due to shock cooling from the extreme temps of regen. It always seems to be just as I am ready to pull into my driveway when it starts regen and I have to pull back into the street and start driving around until its done.

My truck is not smoking during the regen cycle, I have never seen it smoke when the dash has Drive to Clean Filter, it is smoking at other times like the block is cracked but I'm not losing coolant. I new to the site so i am probably on the wrong page.

Well good luck plenty of people have been in your situation. I'm kinda confused they make you pay for stuff with the extended warranty....sounds like your truck is their lowest priority. Unfortunately they probably have no idea what to do.

It would probably be better to start yourself a new thread here or in the 6.4 forum that is more specific to your situation. I will say that your description of white-blueish smoke is typically an injector sticking or over fueling. Since the 6.4 uses diesel and not def during regeneration, it does over-fuel purposely to clean the dpf during a regen cycle. Since your truck never smokes during regen, than I would really be looking at injectors. Since it is intermittent, a sticking injector can be intermittent. That's shocking to me that they charge $500 for a manual regeneration cycle. IIRC, manual regen is just commanding your pcm to perform regen while the truck is sitting and running in the service area. It has been a couple years since I did the manual regen on mine, and I think it only took about 30 minutes.

It wasn't clear to me when I read your post, so did you get a new short block, egr coolers, etc.. when they gave you those diagnosis? It should be a lot easier to get a good diagnosis now that the problem is consistent. Intermittent problems can be hard to pinpoint.

Try doing an internet search for 6.4 powerstroke injector failing symptoms. See if the descriptions match the issues you are having.
